John Harvey directs the Center for Creative Work at The Honors College, University of Houston (UH). His explorations in creativity include The Anatomical Theater he co-teaches with Todd Frazier of the Center for Performing Arts Medicine at Houston Methodist Hospital, and the Dionysia, which he has produced at UH since 2009 featuring new translations and performances of Homer, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, Aristophanes and Thucydides. His poetry has appeared in Cleaver Magazine, The Gettsyburg Review, Gulf Coast, The Paris Review, 2River and many other journals. As Resident Playwright for Mildred’s Umbrella Theater Company, he has penned numerous plays, which have been performed in Austin, Galveston, Houston and New Orleans. He’s received awards for his writing from the Academy of American Poets, Houston Artists Alliance, the Houston Press and the University of Houston.
