Hayan Charara is the author of three poetry books, Something Sinister (2016), The Sadness of Others (2006), and The Alchemist’s Diary (2001). His children’s book The Three Lucys (2016) received the New Voices Award Honor, and he edited Inclined to Speak (2008), an anthology of contemporary Arab American poetry. His honors include a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Lucille Joy Prize in Poetry. He is series editor of the Etel Adnan Poetry Award, a book prize series for first and second poetry books by writers of Arab heritage, published by the University of Arkansas Press. He is also a board member and past president of the Radius of Arab American Writers, a national writers organization. Born in Detroit, he lived for many years in New York City before moving to Texas. He teaches in the Honors College at the University of Houston.
